Happy Weekend

Because of the Independence Day holiday, the work week was short, but somehow I arrived at Friday evening just as worn out.  I'm particularly thankful for friends who meet me for lunch in the middle of a crazy day and let me hold their adorable baby. I'm looking at you, Janet and Charlie.  Other things that brightened my week include long July evenings, 2 Corinthians 3, and unsweetened iced tea.

Also, here is some stuff I clicked on this week and liked:

+ I scream, you scream, we all scream, "I'M CHARLENE!"

+ There is a store in New York that only sells pencils and pencil-related things, and between that and bagels, I think the universe is telling me to move to NYC.

+ I might be turning into one of those people who uses natural deodorant but I'm not willing to try them all and subject people to that process, so thank goodness for this girl who already did.

+ In defense of small towns as a long weekend vacation destination

+ As much as I'd love to be one of those people who subscribes to minimalism, this design trend way more accurately encapsulates my personality.

+ A song for your weekend:  "To Build a Home" - The Cinematic Orchestra

Just like Charlene, if you need me this weekend, I'll most likely be looking at pictures of baby goats. Or in this case, reading about ducks up to no good. Oh animals, you hilarious things.

Take care of yourselves, friends.

Happy Weekend

Well my dears, I think I did a good job of breathing a little more life into the old blog this week, eh? Can't promise the posts will be this bountiful in the coming weeks but as life becomes a bit more ordered, I'll be able to spend the time I want and need into creating and sharing in my little corner of the Internet.

Do you have anything exciting planned for your weekend? Not me, I'm afraid.  This is the last weekend before my grandfather comes to live with my family so I will be helping to get things ready for his arrival.  In this new house, the basement is a three-bedroom apartment all on its own with a full kitchen, one and a half baths, and a washer and dryer.  Until now I've had it all to myself but I am rather looking forward to having Grampie across the "hall".

Anyway, here are some cool things I've found around the web this week:

+ Amazon is amazing all on its own but if you need help picking out a gift for your favorite hipster/design minimalist, Canopy is here to streamline that process.  If Amazon is a giant warehouse, Canopy aims to be the catalog of the coolest stuff in the store.  They have curated the best that Amazon has to offer and you can add things to your Amazon cart right from the Canopy website.  The "under $20" tab is already going to be a problem for me, I can tell. (via Refinery29)

+ One of my favorite photographers, Gray Malin, is doing this incredibly cool project featuring rainbow-colored sheep in the Australian bush.  He explained the inspiration for and meaning behind the photos over on his blog. The sneak peaks posted to Instagram are amazing and I can't wait to see the finished product.

+ In case you have an extra color ink cartridge, here is some really pretty printable gift wrap. Or you could just do like me and use the image as phone wallpaper. (via Oh Happy Day)

+Incredible chalkboard art by two random students at Columbus College of Art and Design (via Laura)

+ My bathroom is getting remodeled this summer and I can't get over these blue large scale floral wallpapered bathrooms. And that copper sink? Yes please.

+ Summer is upon us and I can't wait for all that fresh produce. As soon as I get some ripe tomatoes, I'm going to make this panzanella. (via Anthology Magazine)

+ I shared this on Facebook last week but I've got it on repeat:  check out this little girl doing an amazing cover of one of my favorite songs. I can't believe she's only seven!

Wherever you are, have a good one!

Happy Weekend

(via)

Happy Friday my dear friends! What are you up to this weekend? I'm going to be in Venice, hanging out with these birds.  Just kidding.  Actually, I'll be in Ohio, hanging out with one of my favorites, so that's better than Italian birds. It's been too too long, I'm looking forward to it immensely!

It's been awhile since I've posted one of these but here are some links I've enjoyed lately.

+ The best book trailer I've ever seen. Bonus: It features Mindy Kaling! (via The New Yorker)

+ Speaking of books, ever wonder how home stylists and set decorators acquire them in bulk for decorating? They use sites like Books By The Foot, where you can purchase books, well, by the foot.  You can buy them by color or by subject.  Isn't that fascinating?   I appreciate an aesthetically pleasing bookshelf as much as the next gal, but I can't imagine a world in which I bought books simply for display purposes only. Their value lies between the covers!

+ A clever way to commemorate a road trip.

+ And more fun with maps, here's an interesting look on how long travel took centuries ago. Guess I'll stop complaining about 4 hour airport layovers. (via Fast Company)

+ Call it self-preservation but I'm not over winter yet.  Especially not when there are  super awesome coats out there that I haven't worn yet.  Hello beautiful.

+ This article perfectly articulates what being a writer feels like. Love love love. (via Thought Catalog)

+ A free font roundup? Yes please!

+ This chicken pesto sandwich looks SO. GOOD.

Alright, be kind to yourselves this weekend!

Happy Weekend

Hi my dears. How have you been? I’ve been busy. The recent heat wave kicked things into high gear at work, which is good because a mild summer doesn’t bode well for the air conditioning business.  On a personal level, I’m glad it’s been so breezy and beautiful.  High temps and extreme humidity are not my friends.

Do you have any fun plans this weekend? I’m heading south for a weekend with a friend and I’m looking forward to catching up with her.

I know my blogging has been extra spotty lately and for that I apologize, but today I’m back with another links post. It’s been awhile since I’ve done one so there are extra links for your viewing pleasure.

-------------

+ Mmm...ice cream. Speaking of, here's an interesting profile on the owner of the Van Leeuwen ice cream trucks in NYC. (via Garance DorĂ©)

+ Homemade poptarts. Can't go wrong here.

+ A super fun gold sequin heart tutorial. You know, for all your giant wall bling needs.

+ A recent study on the full moon's effect on sleep. Call me crazy, but I fully believe the full moon plays a role. I am always more anxious around a full moon. (via NPR)

+ Another cool DIY: turn a giant t-shirt into a cute tshirt dress.

+ Loved this article in National Geographic on the tradition of painting elephants in India.

+ I'm not a belt person but if I was, I would totally wear this one.

+ I can't get enough of these Pantone stairs. I would love love to do this in my future house.

+ Did you know that Anthropologie has a blog? Check out their post on a short history of the monogram.

Happy Weekend

Future Ballerinas, American School of Ballet, 1937, by Alfred Eisenstaedt

Happy weekend again!  It's my favorite flavor of early summer outside today. My sister is bringing me lunch at work, the sweetheart. It's a rare treat indeed!  My brother-in-law flies in tonight so we are having a small gathering tomorrow to celebrate summer and being together. I hope the weather holds out for a day of swimming, sunshine, and barbecue.  There have been a few troubling things in the atmosphere lately but it has only served to make me appreciate the good days even more.  It's a reminder to be grateful for what you have (and what you don't) and to never let an opportunity to be loving and kind pass you by.

Anyway, here are some things from around the web that I've appreciated this week:

+ "The truth is, most of us discover where we are headed when we arrive." - Some very wise words on creativity and life purpose from the creator of Calvin & Hobbes (only the best comic strip of all time, mind you)

+ Welcome/survival kit for a house guest. Would be ideal if you live in a big city or for out of state visitors.

+ At the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, the Blue Bottle Coffee Cafe serves desserts made to look like famous pieces of modern art, like Mondrian Cake. This awesome video shows how it's made.

+ Spicy Roasted Vegetable Macaroni & Cheese. Love a good one dish meal. Even though I'm supposed to be avoiding dairy, I can't resist this yummy looking recipe.

+ I could stare at this gif all day. I find it oddly soothing. (via tumblr)

I love and appreciate you, my friends and readers. Have a beautiful weekend. :)

Happy Weekend

Vogue, August 1958

Oh what a lovely day it is outside today! I can't help but be in a good mood. It's Friday, my mom and grandfather joined me for lunch, and I had a heaping ice cream cone.  Did you know calories don't count if you are eating in the sunshine?  Yes, it's true. ;)
Happy Memorial Day weekend, friends! Got any fun plans? For once I don't, but I don't mind. Looking forward to doing a bit of reading and writing and tending to my deck garden. If it's warm enough, I may even  go for a swim. I'm glad it's that season again.

Anyway, here are some things I enjoyed around the web this week:

+ Blooming Monogram. This is such a cool DIY. Add flowers to your life even if you don't have a green thumb.

+ This weekend marks the official start of summer and the official start of camping season (in my book anyway) which means it's time again for my favorite summer dessert...S'MORES! Unfortunately my family will be kicking things off from the comfort of our home instead of around a campfire like last year. But to keep in the spirit, I'm going to make these pretzel s'mores anyway.

+ A thing of immense beauty: macro shots of a fiery-throated hummingbird. And just plain cute: this bunny.

+ The world's smallest hotel. Copenhagen, you are too cute. (via dwell)

+ Speaking of real estate, check out these random renovated places New Yorkers live. I think it would be so cool to live in an old storefront. (via New York Mag)

Happy Weekend

(love love the work of Tim Walker, British fashion photographer)

Hello friends, did you have a good week? Mine was alright, I'm just happy it's ending in sunshine.  I'm looking forward to a weekend at home with my plants and a stack of library books because I'm 80 years old and I don't care who knows.

In the meantime, here are a few things I'm loving this week:

+ Yesterday I bought a mini gold resin lion head for my bedroom wall, 100% serious. It was the best decision I've made all week.

+ In the news: the George W. Bush library was dedicated in Dallas, TX yesterday and 5 present and former presidents were all in attendance (not something that happens often!). The Washington Post has a gallery of images of the presidents hanging out together. In my humble opinion, it says something good about our country when its former leaders can come together in such a peaceful and friendly manner, despite vast political differences. I also thought President Obama's remarks were gracious and kind.

+ This recipe for rosemary flatbread crackers from Gourmet magazine was in our newspaper this week. I can't wait to try it!

+ Have you seen this human chair prank? Both hilarious and terrifying and I may never trust chairs in coffee houses again. (via Hello Giggles)

+ Speaking of things that are funny/scary, Jillian shared this photo with me of a dog wearing a horse mask identical to the one I wore on Halloween.  Obviously I'm getting a dog right this minute so I can recreate this moment.

+ "Wolf" by First Aid Kit - listen here

Have a good one my dears.

Happy Weekend

(from my favorite scene from Breakfast at Tiffany'sSource

Oh weekend. I'm going to be honest, it's been a rough one this week. I've been struggling with my anxiety lately and it doesn't seem to be getting any easier to deal with.  It's too easy to get stuck inside your own head sometimes, you know? But enough negativity, it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm ready to enjoy myself!

In the meantime, here are some things I've found interesting this week:

+ Finger food fit for a queen - can someone organize a tea party so I can make these Black Raspberry-Brie Bites?

+ The Nocebo Effect. A very interesting article on how we (aka me) can actually worry ourselves sick. WebMD is the worst thing ever. (via The New Yorker)

+ A chromatic typewriter. This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

+ The Art Toast Project. Ok ok no THIS is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

+ I don't know why I'm suddenly so obsessed with ombre but this dip-dyed t-shirt looks fun and easy (via Wit & Whistle)

+ Ever since I saw The Perks of Being a Wallflower this song has been stuck in my head:

Hope your weekend has sunshine and (hopefully) spring-like weather!
Take care of yourselves.

Happy Weekend

Whew, thank goodness for Fridays, right? It’s been a rough couple of weeks but I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel.  After last weekend’s stressful visit to NY, and an even more stressful week of work I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend with my family.  In the meantime, here are a few links I’ve enjoyed from around the web lately:

+ Lemon Poppyseed Pancakes, in case you are needing a recipe to make someone fall in love with you. Unless that person is gluten-free. Then they will not fall in love with you because of these pancakes. :(

+ The New Yorker's funny take on the new TSA rules.

+ HEY it's almost my birthday and I'm 100% serious when I say I don't think I can properly transition into the 25th year of my life unless I have these bookends in my life. Don't ask questions, just buy them for me.

+ Loving the simplicity of this DIY art piece.

+ Want to send an email to your future self? Oh Life lets you do just that. Now, if only there was a way to send an email to my present self from my future self...
"Dear Me Right Now, You don't need that cookie. Put it down. NOPE. I see you trying to hide it in your lap! I've got your number, sister. Love, Your Wiser Future Self"

+ A song for your weekend:

Happy Weekend

Wow the weekend couldn't come soon enough! For the last two weeks I feel like all I've had time to do at home is sleep so I am looking forward to staying in and getting caught up on projects and also do some much needed cleaning and organizing. I probably shouldn’t share this but this morning as I was getting ready for work, I noticed a pungently sweet odor coming from my closet. On the floor in a purse I forgot to clean out, I found a clementine that had shall we say, given up the ghost. I know, that’s atrocious and why would I even tell you that but friends, this is real life and sometimes we let citrus rot in our closets because we are terrible at prioritizing in our free time and “do it later” turns into “do it never”.  My point here is I really need to stop ferreting away fruit in my bags like I’m some sort of hoarder.
And also clean the floor of my closet more often.

Anyway, my deplorable habits aside, after the cleaning frenzy, I’m excited to get my crafting on in preparation for Valentine’s Day and sending out the first round of Creative Challenge gifts! What are your plans, friends?

In the meantime, here are some links I liked this week:

+ A simple but yummy recipe for homemade pop tarts inspired by our favorite pies (via A Beautiful Mess)

+ Anytime I was feeling blue this week, I just looked at this photo with the caption "Who am I?" and couldn't stop laughing. I don't know why it's so funny to me.

+ Add this to your list of places to visit: a glass beach in California (via Colossal)

+ A 23 year game of tag. The commitment in their friendship is amazing.

+ Loving the beautiful simplicity in this collection of prints. (via Note to Self)
Also, have you entered to win a 16x20 canvas from The Canvas Tree yet? I've got my eye on this one!

Happy Weekend

Dance and sing, it's the weekend again! The amount of work I've had this week was insane, now I remember why people don't take time off when they have a real job.  Thanks to the magic of post scheduling, however, I've been able to keep regular blog updates, so you're welcome.

What are you up to this weekend? Last night my cousin and her family arrived from Minnesota after I'd already gone to bed so I am looking forward to spending time with them over the next two days.  We will have to find fun indoor things to do because it is freezing and snowy and not in a cute winter wonderland kind of way.

In the meantime, here are a few links I enjoyed clicking on this week:

+ Col. Chris Hadfield is currently in space and is posting pictures of Earth to his Tumblr. Did I mention he's in space? Like, doing his thing, feet off the ground 24/7? And he's sharing his view with all of us lesser-folk back here on terra firma. What a rad dude. Check out this picture of the border of Israel and Egypt.

+ Chocolate and mint is the best dessert flavor combination in the world and no, this is not open for discussion. Chocolate mint sandwich cookies? Don't mind if I do, Martha.

+ 10/10 would hang this cheeky tea towel on my kitchen wall (via Miss Moss)

+ What is it about travelling that makes me think I'm going to need at least 3 outfits per day? It's like I'm presenting at the Oscars or something. This great tutorial reminded me that I can really pare it down when I'm on the road by explaining (with pictures!) how to pack for 2 weeks in a carry-on. Thank you Internet!

+ In case your day is lacking in utter ridiculousness, here are a bunch of animals that have guinea pig's faces Photoshopped over them. It's too hilarious, I can't even.

+ Have I shared this song already? Well I don't care, listen to it anyway.  It's lovely and makes me want to skip around in a black and white film.

Happy Weekend

Hooraaaay Friday! It came rather quickly this week...I'm glad! One of the high points of the week: my boss presented me with a framed certificate of excellence for conquering the electric typewriter. It’s a running joke in the office that as the youngest one there, I am not equipped to handle such “complicated pieces of machinery”, like the typewriter we use for cutting checks. Well last week I finally used it all by myself without calling for help (or ruining anything) and so they gave me an actual award.  We had a good laugh but afterwards I sent all the merry pranksters an email to let them know I will be keeping this joke in mind the next time one of them comes to me with an internet/computer/smart phone problem. We’ll see who’s laughing then…

Anyway, I am so looking forward to tonight, my pal Amanda is coming to spend the weekend with me before she heads off to Italy for a semester. I know, how posh of her. I rarely get to see her, as she is normally in Pennsylvania for school so this is a treat. Yay visitors!

Well, the day’s not over yet, so until then, here are some things I’ve enjoyed from around the web this week:

+ Amazing colorized photos of famous people in history. It looks so real, this guy is a Photoshop genius.

+ Awesome cheap gift idea: jazz up plain white dinnerware with Sharpie markers and an oven. The possibilities are endless! (via The Sweetest Occasion)

+ I love the artwork of Jen Ramos. Very bright and fun!

+ YOU GUYS. I can't stop thinking about chocolate brioche. Can one of my old pals at the Blue Moon please arrange for a delivery? Thanks.

+ An incredibly inspiring quote (via Hip Hip Gin Gin)

Happy Weekend

Hooray weekend! This was not one of my favorite weeks so I’m glad to see it go. I have no big plans and if anything comes up that includes changing out of my big comfy slippers, I’m not interested. I think I’ll bake a loaf of bread and knock out a couple of chapters in A Casual Vacancy
What about you, anything cooking on the first weekend in the new year?

Until then, here are six things I’ve enjoyed this week:

+ Hilarious staged photos of bug memorials. Have I mentioned I love the Internet?

+ How to make decorative waxed paper for gifting baked goods

+ Sea-creature inspired hanging lamps. Cool? yes. Would I hang them in my house? Probably not.

+ Single serve, deep-dish cookie recipe. #fat

+ Then and Now: composite photos of a now-abandoned school in Detroit, with scenes from when it was in use. Rather sad to think about a place with so many memories just sitting empty.

+ Favorite winter song: "White Winter Hymnal" by Fleet Foxes
Bonus: I made a little playlist of all the songs from past Happy Weekend posts on Grooveshark. You don't have to have an account to listen, check it out here.

Until next week!

Happy Weekend

Hello again my dears! I know updates have been short and rather impersonal lately but the holidays are a busy time for us all aren't they? I'm hoping to get back to a regular schedule after the New Year.

Did you have a good week/Christmas? My family got home from their trip to Minnesota yesterday and unfortunately my brothers brought the stomach flu with them. I feel bad for them but will be spending the weekend pounding vitamins while wearing a hazmat suit. No touchy the healthy person, ok guys? It sounds cruel but I am a big crying baby about the stomach flu. No thank you.

In the meantime, here are some cool things from around the Internet for you.

+ Cerealism: a photographer builds mini landscapes out of breakfast cereal because this is America and yes we can.

+ Makeover a plain cardigan with sequins. So clever!

+ Van Gogh: the original Instagrammer. Hilarious.

+ I just want to take a nap in this bed. So comfy looking.

+ A crazy cool timelapse video of all the landings at the San Diego, California airport over a period of 5 hours.

Happy Weekend

Image via tumblr

Ohhh weekend, thank you for coming back again! No big plans for me, I'll probably spend it exactly as pictured above, asleep in a pile of books. I have to work the day before and after Christmas so I will be unable to join my family on their trek to Minnesota, malheureusement. But it's alright, I'm super fun to hang out with so I'm going to have a great time. I'm not being sarcastic, just really really self-confident.

Anywaaay here are some links I've enjoyed this week:

+ A 72-year old man models for his granddaughter's clothing store in China. You look fabulous, Grandpa. #thingsIneverthoughtIdsay

+ Sweet and simple gift wrapping technique. Perfect for every occasion.

+  The Fox is Black has a rad collection of free desktop wallpapers.

+ Baked Hummus and Spinach Dip. Sounds so yummy & would make a good party dish.

Happy Weekend

Happy Weekend my dears! Have you had a good week? I don't know what it is about December but I have just been absolutely buried at work. Good for business, but bad for my stress level.  Anyway, tonight everyone is out but Spencer and I so we are going to have a little brother/sister night out. Tomorrow I'm getting up bright and early to head over to Chicago where I'll be spending the day with Sam and some of my dear Canadian cousins whom I have not seen in years. I am so excited!

Until then, here are a few things I have enjoyed this week:

+ The progression of Venus as photographed in the same spot for one year. Astronomy is so. cool. Did any of you catch the peak of the Geminid meteor shower last night? I don't live far enough away from the city to get a good view but I saw a couple of noteworthy light trails.

+ I JUST REALLY WANT A SWEATER WITH A FOX ON IT. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

+ Ice Lantern tutorial. It's not cold enough here to make these yet but this would be fun to do with kids!

+ A thoughtful piece on the concept of "home". I could not have put it any better myself.

+ Nutella Pie Pops. Stop. it.

Happy Weekend

Happy Friday, friends. Did you have a good week? It was yet another crushingly busy week for me so am I ever so glad to see the headlights of the weekend. No big plans for me, just going to hang out at home and hopefully make more headway on my dresser renovation project. All the paint is finally off, it just needs a final sanding, a coat of primer and THEN I'll be ready to paint. Fingers crossed for a reasonably warm day so I don't have to be cooped up in the garage.  Then tomorrow evening is the company Christmas party which should be a laugh.

Until then, here are some links I've enjoyed this week:

+ A funny piece from The New Yorker on the superiority of the French woman. J'adore.

Flags made out of the food their country is famous for.

+ Time for winter holiday crafts! Cute DIY snow globes and a retro tinsel neon wreath

Salted Caramel Stuffed Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. I know, you're drooling just reading that title.

+ A jam-packed gift guide from To & From magazine  (thanks for the link Hattie!)

+ I know it's technically winter now but I love love love this song from Porgy & Bess and Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong are the bee's knees:

Happy Weekend

Happy day after Thanksgiving my dears! I enjoyed a quiet day at home with some family and friends.  So happy that my sister and her husband are visiting! We have absolutely zero plans for the rest of the weekend and I'm super excited about that. Too often the holidays are hectic and over-scheduled so it's nice to just relax and spend time with each other.

Anyway, here are some links for your weekend.

+ How I feel about Black Friday. Always.

Recipes for Thanksgiving Leftovers. Maybe I'm weird but I get more excited about the leftovers than I do the actual Thanksgiving meal. The turkey sandwich recipes sound delicious.

+ Dumb Ways to Die. A clever, cute, and slightly creepy train safety advert.

+ A collection of awesome shots of reflections in puddles

+ Glitter ALL THE THINGS!

Happy Weekend

Mixed media piece by Beth Hoeckel

Hello lovelies. What are you up to this weekend? My Dad turns the big 5-0 but thanks to his mostly vegan lifestyle and complete lack of gray hair (much to the disgust of my mother) he looks about 15 years younger. We'll probably have cake for that on Sunday. Here's hoping it's not made out of beans...
But before that, I'm headed back down to my alma mater for another raucous weekend of fun & by raucous I obviously mean quiet conversation and dignified activities befitting a lady of my station.

Aaaanyway, here are some links for your viewing pleasure:

+ Crazy cool salt labryinth. But let's not lie, first thing I thought when I saw it: "...ain't nobody got time for that."

+ Making a cake with chocolate frosting? Stop what you're doing and use this recipe for chocolate buttercream. Not making a cake right this instant? Bookmark it, seriously! It is the. best. chocolate frosting I have ever tasted. Not only that, it pipes like a dream and holds its shape beautifully.

Toy Stories. These have been killing me all week. Hilarious.

+ Anyone who follows me on Pinterest knows how much I love weddings. I be pinnin that stuff left, right, up and down to Chinatown (what?). And I’m not even engaged! Listen, I’m not over here embroidering linens for my hope chest or anything, but I just love weddings. Love them (and this is key) as a thing for other people. I in no way feel any inclination to be a bride myself (let’s be real, my most serious relationship right now is with my lemon tree. That may or may not be slowing dying in the kitchen.) But (as Hattie says), for reals and for serious if I was getting married I would wear this dress that I found yesterday. I’m not even ashamed that I’m that girl right now. So you can just deal with it.

+ A simple wall art DIY

+ A new-ish song from Robert Francis. Anytime I hear his voice I am instantly brought back to that cold March evening, driving away from the perfect weekend in Aminona with Dario, Alaina, and Caro. "Junebug” was playing on Dario’s stereo and I remember laying my tired head against the window, watching the setting sun dip in and out of the mountains. I was perfectly content-- incredibly thankful for everything in life that had led me to that exact moment.

Listen here

:) Have a good weekend!

Happy Weekend

Is it Friday again? Quelle joie!  Whew, what a week. Awesome visit from one of my East Coast pals on his way through the state last Saturday. Random drop-in visits are the absolute best and they rarely happen when you live in the middle of nowhere.

After that, I got a lovely handwritten letter in the mail (thanks Hannah!), considered and rejected the idea of getting bangs (again), and ate way too much leftover Halloween candy that was unmercifully perched right beside my desk at work. I feel like I'm missing something....ah yes, the election! ;) Though it was one of my majors in college, I make it a point never to discuss politics in social media, because I find it tiresome and fruitless to argue on the Internet. So, regardless of my (and your) feelings about the outcome, I found this to be a striking photo from the events of the night. The colors and composition; it's a great shot.

This weekend promises to be the last gasp of warmth for probably many months so I plan to skip around outside while I still can. Of course that's in between playing catch-up on sleep, photographs, and every other thing in my life that gets put aside because of work.

In the meantime, here are some of my favorite links from the past week:

+ One of my favorite bloggers, Danni from oh, hello friend, got to visit Highclere Castle where they film Downton Abbey! She shares her lovely pictures from her trip here.

+ Ombre tights. These are the coolest ever but I would definitely accidentally rip these the very first time I wear them so there is no way I'm paying $40 a pair. Fortunately, there's an awesome DIY post over at Brit + Co. Add it to my long list of projects I would like to do this fall/winter.

How to escape from zip ties.  An extremely useful article/video series to have knowledge of should you ever find yourself kidnapped by ruffians, captured by rogue agents, or just in an awkward situation in which you confused zip ties with twist ties. I may or may not read too may spy novels. Hey, safety first, people.

+ Best Ever Garlic Bread. I know I just posted a bread recipe in last week's Friday roundup but you guys. Garlic. Bread. I die. I don't know if I've ever met a person who doesn't enjoy it. Also, this particular recipe doesn't call for you to actually make the bread, you're just jazzing up a pre-made loaf. So you really have no excuse not to go make this right now.

+Violin Super Mario. Yes I went there. You love it too, don't lie.

+ a Fleet Foxes cover of an Elvis classic:
Can't Help Falling In Love by Fleet Foxes Sing on Grooveshark

Have a good one my dears. xo
